About this activity

Would you like to learn a new Photography skill in 2019?

To anyone out there who would like to attend a fascinating and innovative Photography Workshop in which you will learn all about the magical art of Light Painting Photography, my next Workshop will take place on: Sunday - the 23rd of June

A series of Light Paintings created during my March LP Workshops

About your host
I graduated from the Fine Art Photography (BA Hons) course at the Glasgow School of Art in 2001 and have been working hard to establish myself as a respected professional photographer and artist ever since. I specialise in landscape photography, macro photography (the ‘Little People’) and long-exposure photography (the art of ‘light painting’). In 2009 I became obsessed with long exposure photography. I was (and remain) fascinated by how a camera can capture the passing of time in a single frame. It was during this time that I began experimenting with Light Painting and the rest as they say is history. I became utterly mesmerised by the magic and the beauty of this incredibly innovative process, and six years ago I started teaching my own Light Painting Photography Workshops. I now teach regular monthly Light Painting Workshops to other photography enthusiasts, and more recently (since 2018) I also found a way to bring these playful Workshop to secondary schools across Scotland. I am an incredibly passionate speaker and teacher and have truly found my calling in life now that I am lucky enough to be teaching others about what I believe is the most creative, therapeutic and magical form of photography: The art of Light Painting. My work has received some very welcome attention over the years which has led to me becoming involved in some very exciting projects all over the world. A list of some recent media coverage can be found below. Highlights of the past couple of years include having some of my photography stocked by John Lewis and Art Pistol Gallery, as well as now having some of my work sailing around the world on the wonderful AIDAnova cruise ship. Online Media coverage: Mail Online / The Times / The Telegraph / The Herald / BBC / New York Post VIDEOS: I AM DIFFERENT - Nikon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XNewbMQEzo BBC - Interview about my project and exhibition: Project Memory Tower https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq_YJpColr8 The Little People visit London: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WoBkYMBTpY AWARDS: BA (Hons) Fine Art Photography PUBLICATIONS: I wrote my own book: "A step by step guide to Light Painting" https://www.davidgilliver.com/photography/e-book-launch-day-finally-arrived/ My work has featured in lots of photography magazines, books and newspaper publications. Being featured in the New York Post was a particular highlight: https://nypost.com/2015/12/02/stormtroopers-and-darth-vader-enjoy-the-dark-side-of-home-life/ Summary: I hope that you might be interested in attending one of my future Light Painting Workshops. I can promise you a very interactive experience and if you have never been light painting before, prepare to have your mind blown.
